Description: Exquisite and rare Russian enamel brooch of Catherine the Great. Arguable, the finest enamellists in the world, this brooch displays all the finesse and beauty of Russian enamel work. The brooch has Russian hallmarks (see photo) and engraved on the back beneath a crown is the name, "Catherine". This is an exceptional brooch; a worthy commemorative of the life of one of the world's most exceptional women.
Catherine the Great was Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796. No other Russian monarch appreciated beauty as much as Catherine, she set the stage for the emergence of a national Russian culture that would emerge as something unique and wonderful in the 19th century. Catherine built marvelous new monuments across Russia and transformed St. Petersburg into a truly European city of Imperial pretensions. The arts, music and education where patronized by her, and Catherine pumped millions of rubles into the creation of the Hermitage collection, which today is the delight of Russia and the world.
