Victorian garnet sparrow brooch

Victorian swallow brooch encrusted with rose cut garnets. Swallow has a seed pearl eye and is set in low karat rose gold.

Dimensions:  1.25 inches by 2.5 inches

Condition: excellent, a piece of gold wire may be missing from the left wing; safety clasp is a 1930's replacement

Year:  1860-80

Description:  During the Victorian era, these birds were seen as messengers of love.  This garnet brooch is set with rose cut garnets and has a seed pearl eye.  Note the rose gold beak, a nice added detail.  Setting is a low karat rose gold.
