Description: For me, one of the most striking and unique features of this picture is the picture in the center of the hair work flowers which shows a mother and daughter on their knees praying before a tomb. Above them, written in French is the touching sentiment: "here below lies our sacrifice but in heaven awaits our happiness". There are 3 colors of hair used to make the flowers in this picture: blonde, med. brown and a dark brown.
On the back is some of the history of the family whom this picture commemorates. Dated 1863, it begins, "Souvenir of our family, a dedication in hair...." then it tells about different family members and which parts of the hair work belongs to which family member. The hand writing is somewhat faded and some rubbing has blurred the words. It is uncommon to find hair work pictures with such detailed family history. I am going to make a photocopy of the back and get my French friends to try and help me translate the hand writing.
