Excellent book, “Rings, 1800-1910″ just released
Rings have always been “the most cherished item in the entire sphere of jewellery”.* Perhaps this is because they symbolize the gamut of human emotions: love, friendship, passion, belonging, celebration as well as loss, grief and longing.
Over the next few weeks, I am going to be writing about rings and hope you will join me in the discussion. Topics will include: gemstones and their symbolism; secret and overt symbols used on rings; rings that are more than they appear to be, such as poison rings, gimmel rings and poesy rings.
There will also be many rings added to the site during this time.
“Rings 1800-1910″ by Verlaine Davies is a great book; packed with fascinating information and beautiful color photos. Do you know what a “Repeal” ring is? What about a “Decade” ring? or, do you want to find out when almandine garnets began to be widely used?
To order a copy of Ms. Davies book, please visit her website: www.ringlore.net
