Georgian cut steel chatelaine with hair work miniature

Rare Georgian cut steel chatelaine with mourning miniature on ivory.   The sheath of wheat symbolized the deceased being “harvested” into eternal life.   Wheat was also used to denote someone dying in later life.

The hair work is on ivory and is surrounded by a rose gold bezel.

Dimensions: 2 inches wide; 5 inches long

Condition: excellent and all original
