Georgian double snake brooch w/hairwork

Unique Georgian sentimental snake brooch depicting eternal life and eternal love.   An ornately chased rose gold snake surrounds the blonde hairwork in the center.   The second snake wraps around the rim of the brooch.  It  is encrusted with gray seed pearls and has a Whitby jet eye.   Note that each snake holds it’s tail in it’s mouth,  symbolizing unending life and love.

The brooch does have some age appropriate wear on pearls and a few scratches on the rock crystal covering the hairwork.   The original safety chain is still intact.

Dimensions:  3/4 inch by 1 and 1/8 inches

Year:   1820-40
