Victorian garnet flower brooch

Star shaped flowers comprised of rose cut garnets adorn this unique Victorian brooch.   The setting is a low karat rose gold, also known as “garnet gold”.

Garnet is the birth stone for January.  It received its name from the Latin word for pomegranate, “granatum”, because it reminded early scientists of pomegranate seeds.   During the Victorian era, Western cultures believed that garnets would enrich the blood and provide the wearer with a long, healthy life.
