Georgian diamond heart pendant
Stunning Georgian locket back heart pendant.
In the center of the heart is a rare cinnamon garnet surrounded by rose cut diamonds. The formal name of this gemstone is Hessonite. Cinnamon garnets were primarily found in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The color of the cinnamon garnet changes according to the type of light it is in: in natural light, the stone is a vibrant mandarian orange. Indoors, the stone takes on a more intense, reddish hue.
The top is silver and the back of the pendant is yellow gold. During the Georgian period, diamonds were almost always set in silver, to enhance their brilliance. The back of this locket contains a wisp of blonde hair and a twisted gold wire. This could easily be removed so that your own special keepsake could be placed inside.

Condition: excellent, no damage or restoration
Year: 1820-40
