Jugendstil compact/pendant, Wiener Werkstatte

Rare Jugendstil sterling silver enamel compact/pendant made by one of the artisans of the Wiener Werkstatte group. Superbly crafted, on the lid is silver pierce work depicting two love birds. Note the Jugendstil stylized water lily at the end of the compact handle; and, inside, is a bezeled mirror and a thick gold gilt.
The long, sleek German Art Nouveau compact would look lovely worn as a pendant. Originally, it would have been worn on a long chain or on a finger ring.
(Note: “Jugendstil” is the term used by the Austrians and Germans for the Art Nouveau period.) Jugendstil pieces, especially those with Vienna hallmarks are highly sought after and extremely hard to find.
