Victorian enamel pendant

Robin’s egg blue enamel surrounds four perfectly matched pearls.
On the reverse, this high karat (15 or 18kt) rose gold pendant has a Prince of Wales feather created from brown hair and accented with gold wire. Inscribed around the sides of the hair work center are two sets of initials and a date, “GFJ 1858 JWJ”.
This locket was either a mourning pendant for two related individuals or was created to commemorated a wedding or anniversary. The enamel, being similar in color to turquoise, would have symbolized “rememberance” and the pearls symbolized purity and love.
Chain shown with pendant is for display purposes only. It is not original to the locket.
