Egyptian Revival moonstone ring
What an exciting find! This Egyptian Revival ring, from the 1920′s, depicts two snake like creatures entwined around a cabachon moonstone. Note that their tails are wrapped around a pearl, which has a bluish cast to it.
The moonstone has a wonderful blue opalescence.
Egyptian Revival jewelry is highly sought after by jewelry collectors. It consists of everything from snake bracelets to headdresses featuring traditional Egyptian symbols such as scarabs, sphinx and pyramids.
There have been several different Egyptian Revival movements throughout the last 2 centuries. The first spanned from approximately 1860-1870 around the construction of the Suez Canal. The second began when King Tut’s tomb was discovered in 1922. The discovery was not only an important archeological find, it influenced everything from architecture to fashion. Woman all over the world began wearing jewelry, headdresses, and belts with Egyptian motifs. This period of the 1920′s became known as the Egyptian revival.
Year: 1920′s
